A Dream Fulfilled
The Ferree Foundation was
established in 1953 through the vision of Idyl Ferree, a well-known
local attorney, and his wife, Mabel. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ferree were
natives and life-long residents of Randolph County, North Carolina.
Although childless
themselves, Mr. and Mrs. Ferree helped provide a college education
for several local students and the idea of an educational foundation
was born. The Ferrees seeded the Foundation with a parcel of land
which was sold to provide funds for student loans. They took great
pleasure in the Foundation, and remained active in its affairs until
Mr. Ferree’s death in 1965. Mrs. Ferree continued to be involved as
her health allowed until her death in 1982. The Ferrees bequeathed
a large portion of their estate to the Foundation, increasing its
resources and allowing hundreds of students to benefit from their
generosity.
For over fifty years, The
Ferree Foundation has fulfilled Mr. and Mrs. Ferree’s dream of
helping Randolph County citizens attain their higher education
goals.
